OPSENS Sat
A flexible & compact solution for
easy integration around the vehicle
OPSENS Sat enables integration of the base sensor in different locations around the vehicle, based on customers’ needs, to maximize the performance at each position. The compact size and low power consumption allow for integration behind the windshield, front or back lighting systems or any other area of the vehicle, depending on the application. Installing the LiDAR at these front positions, adds the benefit of cost reduction as they may not require additional cleaning systems.
The LiDAR control unit (LCU) can be installed up to 15m from the LiDAR units. Alternatively, it can be integrated into the platform compute unit and save on cost, size, and thermal concerns.

OPSENS Sat300: Key Tech Spec
OPSENS Sat is easy to integrate and extremely cost-effective. Opsys LiDAR units do not have any active moving or cooling elements in the product. The simple electronic design is robust to vibration and temperature variations and has a low unit to unit variance. It is designed for high volume, and with its simplicity of assembly and calibration means it is very cost effective.
OPSENS Sat when placed behind the windshield addresses various long-standing challenges with using traditional LiDARs for autonomous driving; mainly heat dissipation and then the resulting noise from cooling. In addition, traditionally, LiDAR has not worked well when mounted behind the windshield in terms of guaranteeing range performance, but OPSENS Sat addresses all these problems.
One of the trickier technical challenges for LiDAR is glass, as the sensor needs to be free from interference. OPSENS Sat has a unique scanning solution, based on beam patterns, that compensates for any potential distortion introduced by the windshield.

Different Setup Options
There are two configurations in which the OPSENS Sat can be used. The first, is in combination with an LCU (LiDAR Control Unit) that can be placed up to 15m from the LiDAR units. This has the benefit of a faster time to market, as there is no need to update the platform's compute unit. The second option, is to integrate the LCU's functionality into the platform's compute unit which has the benefit of saving on cost. In addition, Opsys LiDAR units have the added benefits of not requiring any active cooling elements and are fully solid-state.
The simple electronic design is robust to vibration and temperature variations and has a low unit to unit variance. It is designed for high volume, and with its simplicity of assembly and calibration means it is overall an extremely cost-effective solution.
OPSENS Sat LiDAR operates in a wide temperature range, from -40°C to +85°C and is supported in harsh conditions. It is extremely reliable, delivering a high resolution point cloud, at an affordable price for mass production. It is compact in size: 84W x 39H x 59D (mm).
Benefits of OPSENS Sat
-
OPSENS Sat enables the capability to split between the base sensor (TRX) and the control and compute units. This minimizes the installation size and reduces the heat dissipation management
-
Many installation options that were not possible due to existing LiDAR technology can now be supported, such as inside the front and back lighting systems or behind the windshield
-
As OPSENS Sat does not include any active element for beam shifting or laser cooling, this makes for easy installation as the integrators maintain the existing shape of a platform
